Full-Service Home and Apartment Moves

A full-service long-distance move covers packing, loading, transport, unloading, and furniture assembly. We move single-family homes, townhomes, condos, and apartments, from one bedroom to six or more. Choose the parts of the job you want us to handle, and we build the estimate around them.

Long-Distance Office and Commercial Relocations

Moving a business out of McLean County takes a schedule your staff can work around. Our office moving crews pack desks, files, IT equipment, and conference room furniture, then stage the truck so your team’s most-needed items come off first at the new location.

Pianos, Appliances, and Heavy Furniture

Our piano moving service protects upright, grand, and specialty pianos from loading to delivery. Our crews also move appliances, large furniture, and fragile glassware. List every heavy item when you request your estimate so the price reflects the right weight and crew size.

Long Moves on I-55, I-74, and I-39

Three interstates meet at Bloomington-Normal. I-55 runs north to Chicago and south to Springfield, I-74 runs west to Peoria and east to Champaign, and I-39 heads north toward Rockford. We plan the route and timing before the truck leaves.

Where Long-Distance Moves From Bloomington Go Wrong

These planning gaps cause trouble on long moves from Bloomington, and each is easier to solve before moving day than on it.

Older homes near downtown. White Place, laid out in 1898 just north of East Empire Street, and the 19th-century homes of the Franklin Square historic district have staircases and doorways built long before modern sectionals and king beds. Some large pieces may not fit through in one piece, so we plan for them at the walkthrough.
Apartment access around the courthouse square. Downtown moves depend on the stairwell, the entrance, and how close the truck can park. Tell us about stairs and parking at both addresses during the walkthrough.
An inventory with gaps. We build a long-distance estimate on the inventory you describe. A forgotten basement, garage, or storage unit adds weight, and added weight changes the price.
A closing date that slips. Long-distance delivery arrives inside a scheduled window, not at a fixed hour. If your keys come later than planned, your belongings need somewhere to wait.
Boxes packed in a hurry. Rushed cartons tend to arrive with problems after a long drive. Long moves call for tightly packed boxes and extra cushioning around fragile items.

Long-Distance Moving Costs: How We Price a Bloomington Move

We bill local moving inside Bloomington and Normal by the hour. Long-distance moves work differently: our long-distance moving service prices each move by shipment weight and distance, so what you bring sets most of the cost.

What Changes the Price of Your Move

Five factors can raise or lower a long-distance estimate.

Factor	How it affects your estimate
Shipment weight	More rooms and more furniture add weight, and weight drives the base price.
Distance	Farther destinations add drive time and fuel.
Packing and extra services	Full packing, furniture assembly, and storage each add to the total.
Access at both homes	Stairs, elevators, and a long walk to the truck add labor time.
Time of year	Peak months from May through August book up first and can cost more.

Your Estimate and Illinois Moving Rules

A move to Chicago covers about 135 miles but never leaves the state, so Illinois Commerce Commission rules for intrastate household goods movers apply. Under those rules, a mover cannot hold your goods once you pay the written estimate plus 10 percent if that estimate ran low. Our estimates are formal, and we do not lowball to win the bid.

Get estimates from more than one mover for the same inventory, and treat a price far below the rest as a warning sign, not a bargain.

Planning Your Long-Distance Move Timeline

Lead time decides which dates you get. Book at least two weeks out, and allow more if your move falls between May and August, the busiest stretch of the moving year.

Booking Around a New Job Start Date

The Illinois Commerce Commission suggests starting your search for a mover six weeks before the move, which also leaves time to sort the house and compare estimates. A relocation for a job at State Farm or Country Financial, both headquartered in Bloomington, often has a fixed start date. Plan the pickup and delivery window backward from that date.

Moving Into Bloomington

Moving into Bloomington follows the same logic. Start from the day you get keys, set the delivery window, and plan for the gap between them. If that gap grows, our storage holds everything until the house is ready.

A Prep Checklist for the Weeks Before Pickup

Use the weeks before pickup to cut weight and head off surprises.

Sort and declutter. Weight drives the price, so a worn bookshelf can cost more to haul than to replace. Sell, donate, or discard what you will not use before the walkthrough.
Label every box. Mark the contents and the destination room on each carton.
Pack a first-night box. Keep toiletries, a few days of clothes, and chargers together, and carry that box in your car.
Keep documents with you. Closing papers, passports, and medical records ride in your vehicle, not on the truck.
Clear the path. On pickup day, clear walkways and entries and point out anything fragile or valuable.

Our Long-Distance Moving Process, Step by Step

Here is how a Moving Mountains long-distance move runs, from the first call to the last box.

1. Walkthrough and Weight-Based Estimate

We review what you are moving, in person or over the phone, so the weight-based price reflects the real work, not a guess.

2. Packing and Furniture Prep

Our packing and unpacking services cover the whole house or only the rooms you would rather skip, usually the kitchen, the fragile items, and the garage. We bring the boxes, tape, and bubble wrap.

3. Inventory, Loading, and Transit

We inventory everything that goes on the truck, pad the furniture, and load it so nothing shifts on the highway. We set the pickup and delivery window and keep you posted while your belongings are in transit.

4. Delivery, Unloading, and Setup

Label each box with its contents and its room, and our crew carries it straight to that room at the new address. We place and assemble furniture where you want it and can unpack the rooms you need first so you can use them on delivery day.

5. Storage Between Homes

Our storage solutions cover delayed closings or late lease starts. We move your belongings into storage and deliver them to the new address when you are ready.

Long Distance Movers in Bloomington, IL: Common Questions

Answers to common questions about long-distance moves from Bloomington.

Is a move from Bloomington to Chicago a long-distance move?

Yes. We price a Chicago move, about 135 miles away, by shipment weight and distance rather than by the hour. Because the move stays in Illinois, the mover needs an Illinois Commerce Commission household goods license. Ours is ILCC 236971.

Can you hold our things if a Bloomington closing gets pushed back?

Yes. Our storage holds your belongings until the new home is ready, and we deliver them when you are. Mention a possible gap at the estimate so the plan includes it from the start.

What do you need from me for a long-distance estimate?

We need your moving date, current address, destination, home type, and number of bedrooms. Also tell us about your largest pieces, stairs or elevators at either address, and anything you want packed or stored. The more complete the inventory, the closer the estimate comes to the final price.

Do you move pets, plants, or gas-powered equipment?

We don’t transport pets or plants, so plan to bring them in your car or arrange separate transport. Mowers, generators, and anything else with a fuel tank can go once the tank is drained. List these items at the estimate so the inventory and the weight come out accurate.

Do you also handle moves within Bloomington-Normal?

Yes. We bill moves across town or to a nearby community by the hour instead of by weight. If you are staying within Bloomington-Normal, ask about local moving when you call, and we will give you a free hourly estimate.

What happens if my move date changes?

Let us know as soon as you can. We will work to fit your new date into the schedule, though availability tightens during the busy summer months. If the delay is on the new home’s side, our storage can hold your belongings until you can take delivery.

Can you move our office out of Bloomington without a long shutdown?

We schedule commercial moves around your business hours and can move your office in stages when that helps you stay open. Share your must-have equipment list and your target date at the new location when you request an estimate, and we will build the schedule around them.
